An anime coloring page for inventing your own colors
Chibi anime girl with a hood and braids coloring page
This girl wears a large hood, two braids that reach almost to her boots and a cape full of little details. If you would like to color an anime character without drawing one first, download and print this page. I like to start with the clothing: just two or three colors begin to establish the character’s mood.
You do not need to follow a fixed combination. Imagine her in a forest, a fantasy city or on a winter afternoon, and choose your colors from there.

The braids and cape edges let you play with highlights without covering the lines.

Where to begin
A simple way to bring her to life with color
I would divide the drawing into three areas: the hood, the hair, and the cape, dress and boots together. That makes it easier to keep a coherent palette.
A hood that frames the face
Choose one main color for the fabric. Keep the edge around the forehead lighter and add a soft shadow beneath the hood; that is enough to suggest its volume.
Two long braids
Instead of coloring every strand the same way, alternate light and dark areas following the curve of each section. Apply colored pencils in light layers to preserve the fine lines.
Cape, dress and boots
Repeat a color from the hood in the dress decorations and save another for the boots. The little diamonds and ribbons at the center work well as contrasting accents.
To test color combinations for the hood and braids before you begin, explore the colored-pencil Atlas (in Spanish).
Choose the mood
Three ways to make her different
The same drawing can change dramatically with the hood and hair colors. These ideas are just starting points.
A forest mood
Try sage green for the cape, soft brown for the braids and small golden details. Keep the boots a darker brown to balance the look.
A chilly afternoon
Try blue-gray and lavender on the hood. Pale hair and rosy cheeks can add warmth without filling the whole figure with color.
Bright fantasy
Combine coral, cream and turquoise. Use the brightest shade only in the center of the clothing or on the braid ribbons so the face stays the focal point.
Look at the eyes too: preserving the white highlights helps keep the expression. If you enjoy these characters, explore more anime girl coloring pages.
Download the page and print it on A4 paper
Select the button to save the page and print it on an A4 sheet. Then take your time with the hood, braids and small clothing details.
The drawing is in portrait orientation. When printing, choose “Fit to page” and check that the braid ends and boots remain within the margins. If you use markers, place another sheet underneath; for colored pencils, slightly thicker paper allows gentle layering.
