01 / An idea to get started

Chestnut hair with warm highlights

The Atlas’s “Soft brunette · Natural” palette combines ochres, terracotta, and grays. Use the warm shades for the hair and reserve the darkest one for small overlaps. Soft pink or lavender blue clothes let the hair stand out.

How to color long hair while preserving the waves

Start with one lock, not the whole head. Once you find a combination you like, repeat it through the hair. Place a clean sheet beneath your hand to avoid smudging the colored areas.

  1. Reserve the highlight

Before coloring, choose a light band in the broad locks. Give that area very little color and apply a light ochre layer around it.

  2. Follow each curve

Move the pencil toward the ends. Shorten your strokes in the curls and follow each lock’s shape. Deepen only the places where one curl passes beneath another.

  3. Dress the character

Once the hair is finished, choose the hoodie color. Repeat it in the T-shirt’s heart or the sneakers to connect the clothes without overloading them.

Four details to make your version stand out

THE HAIR

A highlight that follows the hair

The light band should curve with the lock. Bring ochre toward its edges and ease your pressure as you enter it. A soft white area looks more natural than a straight stripe across all the hair.

THE CURLS

Darken the hollow, not the whole tip

Add Burnt Ochre inside the lower curls. Save dark gray for a small overlap. Filling the entire curl with the deepest shade will flatten its shape.

THE HOODIE

Create depth with two intensities

Apply a soft base, then repeat the color beneath the hood, inside the sleeves, and beside the pockets. Keep the shoulder and center of each sleeve lighter.

THE EYES

Preserve the eye reflections

The white highlights help the eyes stand out. Use a sharp point on the irises, darker at the top and lighter below. Leave the black pupils as printed.

How do I create a smooth gradient in the hair?

Apply Brown Ochre lightly, then add Burnt Ochre from the shadow area. Overlap the two in the center with soft strokes. Preserve the highlight band; you do not need to cover it to blend the rest of the lock.

What if a curl becomes too dark?

Stop adding layers and dab gently with a kneaded eraser without rubbing the printed lines. Keep the neighboring curve light. Contrast helps restore the shape even if you cannot remove all the color.

03 / From drawing to paper

Download the doll and print the complete drawing

Save the JPG and choose A4 portrait with “fit to page.” Check that the curls and sneakers all fit. If the lines look unclear, print the drawing slightly smaller on the sheet.

Try matte paper for colored pencils. Sharpen the tip for eyes and laces, and use light pressure on the large hair sections.
