soirolaba_scrap’s version · Lapiceros Unidos
Olive leaves, pink flowers and eyes full of light
In soirolaba_scrap’s version, the dress leaves repeat the green of the crown and eyes. Muted pink flowers and brown hair frame a soft, luminous face. This example was hand-colored with Caran d’Ache Luminance pencils on 180 gsm Canson XL Bristol paper; the scan shows the strokes and texture left on the paper.

Three details to look at
- A pale face among warm colors
The cream base leaves room for peach tones on the cheeks and ears. Brown strands frame the face and retain light lines between the strokes.
- Green leaves and muted pink flowers
Olive green repeats on the head and skirt. The flowers stand out among the leaves without covering their edges or little stems.
- Bright eyes and a soft shadow
The olive irises keep clearly visible white highlights. Beneath the feet, a warm shadow grounds the character without filling the background.

Another idea for your version
An Atlas palette for the woodland deer girl
The creative palette “Forest fairy” combines warm light shades, greens and a magenta you can apply very gently to the flowers. It is an alternative Polychromos suggestion for your version. Try cream and cinnamon on the face, greens on the leaves and small yellow touches for light.

From the first layer to the finishing touches
How to color the deer girl and her leaves
Begin with gentle layers and save your darkest brown for edges and small shadows. Follow the example’s combination or turn this woodland deer girl into a character from another season.
Keep the face light
Apply a light cream base. Add a warm shade to the cheeks and inside the ears, leaving the muzzle and center of the forehead lighter.
Shape the hair and leaves
Follow the strands with brown strokes. Color the leaves olive green and darken gently near the veins and where one leaf overlaps another.
Connect the flowers and dress
Give the flowers a muted pink and repeat a touch on other details. Keep the dress light, finish the boots and add a gentle shadow beneath the feet.
Four tips to bring the drawing to life
THE LEAVES
Separate overlapping leaves
Keep the center of each leaf lighter and add a shadow beside the edge that sits beneath another. You do not need to outline everything in black to distinguish the shapes.
THE HAIR
Follow the curve of the strands
Alternate brown strokes with light gaps in the direction of the hair. Darken slightly beneath the leaves and near the edges without covering every highlight.
THE FLOWERS
Pink with changes in intensity
Use light pressure in the petal centers and add another layer near the folds. Those gentle differences help the flowers look more defined than a single patch of color.
THE EYES
Reserve the white highlights
Leave the eye highlights uncolored. Give the iris a soft green and deepen its upper part, keeping the lower area a little lighter.
Do I have to color the leaves green?
No. Use yellows, ochres or reddish shades for autumn leaves. Choose two or three colors and repeat them on the head and skirt to connect the two parts of the drawing.
If you would like to practice first, find more ideas in the colored pencil learning guides.
