Purple hair, turquoise horns and warm eyes

CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 · Terms for the drawings and colored examples
In this example, the purple hair contrasts with the ivory skull and turquoise horns. The pink hoodie adds another splash of color, while the sneakers repeat the blues. The warm eyes stand out against the cooler hair and hood.
Stitches that stay clear
Ochre marks on the hood help separate its panels and highlight the tears along the edges. Notice how the bright reflections in the eyes remain visible. These observations describe the example without assuming the order in which Patro worked.

Ideas for your own version
Three small details that make a difference
These are suggestions for practicing with your own pencils, separate from the techniques Patro used.
- 1
Straight hair with highlights
Draw fine strokes following the direction of the hair. Keep a lighter band within each section, then deepen the roots and tips instead of filling every strand with one flat tone.
- 2
Rounded, striped horns
Keep a light area running along each horn. Darken one side of the bands and soften the transition. You can change the stripe colors while keeping the same direction of light.
- 3
Separate the skull and the eyes
Keep the skull light and deepen only the sockets, the bases of the teeth and a few stitches. Preserve the white reflections in the girl’s eyes to keep her gaze bright.
An alternative from the Atlas
Purple and gold for a different version
The Atlas palette “Witch outfit: violet and gold” offers a darker direction for the outfit. Try purple on the hoodie or hair, indigo in the shadows and small gold accents on the bell. This is an alternative suggestion, separate from the ten pencils used in the example.
