A colorful hug by patro_espigares
patro_espigares, a member of Lapiceros Unidos (Español), hand-colored this page with Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils on recycled Paint On paper. The blue costume contrasts with the rosy face and the doll’s earthy colors. The stitches and large button eyes still take center stage.

Three details to look at
- Blues that keep the bandages visible
The costume has light areas and others with deeper blue. The lines between the bandages remain visible and help you follow the shape of the body and arms.
- A warm face among the blues
Rosy cheeks, the inner ears and golden eyes add warmth. The white eye highlights keep the gaze lively.
- A doll with its own texture
Beige, brown and small green touches distinguish the doll. Its dark stitches and button eyes stand out while preserving the fabric look.

Another idea for your version
An Atlas palette for the mummy doll
The creative palette “Skull: aged bone” combines ivory, warm grays and sepia. Try it on the doll’s bandages for an aged-fabric look. It is an alternative for that area, different from the ten pencils patro_espigares used; it does not include the costume’s blues or the face’s pinks.

From the first layer to the finishing touches
Bring color to the costume, bandages and hug
Begin with light layers to distinguish the bunny from the doll. Then add small shadows without covering the lines that make each character special.
Separate the two friends
Try one color for the costume and another for the doll. Place the swatches together and choose two shades that are easy to distinguish.
Color with light pressure
Add a first layer to the costume, ears and doll. Leave light areas in the centers of the bandages and beside the rounded parts of the face.
Add the small details
Deepen a few shadows beneath the arms and between the bandages. Finish with the cheeks, stitches and buttons, using a sharp pencil point.
Four details to make your version stand out
THE EARS
Two colors that work together
Use the costume color on the ear edges and a soft shade inside. Add a little more shadow near the base and keep the broadest area light.
THE BANDAGES
They do not all need the same shadow
Keep the center of each strip lighter. Add a gentle line where one bandage passes beneath another, without outlining every edge with equal pressure.
THE DOLL
Stitches that stay visible
Color the fabric gently first. Then sharpen a brown or gray pencil for the small dots and stitches. Try a touch of another color on the hands and feet too.
THE EYES
Preserve the little highlights
Color around the white dots in the eyes. A darker shade above and a lighter one below let you experiment with the gaze without covering the highlights.
Do I have to color the bandages blue?
No. Blue is part of patro_espigares’s example. Leave the bandages pale, use another color or combine several intensities of the same shade. The key is to keep the costume and doll distinct.
