Three combinations for an urban outfit
Start with the pants, which take up much of the drawing. Then choose a contrasting T-shirt and repeat a small accent color on the sneakers or bracelets.
Olive green and coral
- Olive green
- Cream
- Coral
- Brown
Try olive green pants, a cream T-shirt, and small coral accents on the sneakers. Use brown for the hair and to shade the pocket edges.
Denim blue and mustard
- Denim blue
- Mustard
- Light gray
- Dark blue
Try blue pants with a mustard T-shirt. Keep the sneakers light and use dark blue only on seams, soles, and folds so the outfit does not feel too heavy.
Lilac and pearl gray
- Lilac
- Pearl gray
- Mint
- Plum
Combine pearl gray pants with a lilac T-shirt and mint laces. Add plum to a few shaded areas; there is no need to darken every line.
You can look for clothing shades in the Pencil Atlas (in Spanish) and choose the closest matches among your own pencils.
Pockets, fabric, and sneakers made simple
The clothes have broad areas, while pockets and folds help define their shape. Start with a light base and then decide which details to emphasize.
Make the pockets stand out
Use the pants’ color in a stronger layer beneath the flap and down one side of each pocket. Keep the center a little lighter to make it look raised.
Follow the folds without filling them in
At the knees and ankles, follow the lines with short strokes. Avoid drawing a dark line over every outline: a few shadows are enough to suggest the fabric.
Reserve white areas on the sneakers
Before coloring, decide which parts of the soles and laces will stay white. A very soft gray beneath the laces helps separate them from the rest of the shoe.
Give the hair movement
Color in the direction of the waves, leaving light bands across the widest curves. Deepen the color where the hair falls behind the face and shoulders.
Add a personal touch
Try two versions of the same outfit
Print a second copy and change only the pants and T-shirt. Make one outfit in natural shades and another in brighter colors. Compare which combination lets the face and hair stand out best.

From the drawing to your coloring table
Save the drawing and open print preview. Choose portrait orientation and “fit to page” to keep all the hair and sneakers in view. Place a protective sheet underneath if you use markers.

Questions about the urban outfit
Do I have to make the pants look like denim?
No. Use greens, grays, beige, or any color you like. The side pockets define these pants; you choose the color and texture.
How do I keep the T-shirt from blending into the hair?
Choose a shade lighter or darker than the hair. If both are dark, leave a soft band of light on the locks falling over the shoulders.
