Chubby dragon coloring page to print

Here is a chubby dragon to color, with a huge tummy, open wings and a friendly smile. I like how it combines large areas, such as the tummy, with small details on the scales and wings: keep it simple or spend a while exploring them. Download the JPG, print it and choose your colors.

From drawing to paper

How to download and print this page

If this is your first time coloring a dragon, I would start with the tummy: its wide bands let you move the pencil comfortably. Then I would work on the body and leave the wing membranes, side scales and horns until last. This makes it easier to keep the details clean.

  1. Click Download the round-bodied dragon JPG and save the original file to your device. If your browser opens the image, use its save-image option.
  2. Use portrait A4 or US Letter paper, keep the image centered and print it at its original size. Avoid stretching this JPG to fill the sheet.
  3. Print in grayscale to preserve the drawing’s shading. If you use markers, place another sheet underneath to keep ink off the table.

The original JPG measures 904 × 1200 pixels and has a portrait format. To print on A4, fit the image to the page without stretching it so the wings and feet remain complete.

Three color ideas for this drawing

I would choose the body color first, followed by a lighter color for the tummy. Then I would use a third shade on the wings; that small difference is enough to distinguish the dragon’s parts.

Green and cream

Color the body leaf green and the tummy cream. Add darker green beneath the arms and along both sides of the tummy, leaving the center light to emphasize its round shape.

Orange and yellow

Try soft orange on the body, pale yellow on the tummy and coral on the wings. Light brown horns will stand apart from the face.

Purple and turquoise

For a fantasy dragon, use purple on the body and turquoise on the wing membranes. Keep the tummy very pale lilac and preserve the white highlights in the eyes.

Coloring tips

How to color the tummy, wings and scales

1

On the tummy, move your pencil along each horizontal band. Start gently and leave a light area in the center.

2

Darken the sides of the tummy and beneath the chin, where the drawing already has shadows. This creates volume without emphasizing every line.

3

On the wings, use short strokes following the direction of each membrane. Color the scales with light pressure and keep the smile and eye highlights clear.

To practice layers and shadows before starting, follow the tips in Learn to color.

More drawings for your next session

To continue, the dragon coloring page collection has characters in other poses and with different levels of detail. The flying chibi dragon is a good choice for more rounded shapes; the young anime-style dragon has more small areas to practice on.

Before you start coloring

Is this an easy dragon for beginners?

The body and tummy have broad spaces. The wings, toes and horns need a little more care; use a single color for them if you prefer a simple version.

Can I download the drawing on my phone?

Yes. Tap the download button and save the JPG. If it opens on another screen, press and hold the image and choose save or download; the option’s name depends on your browser. Then send it to your printer.
