Three ideas for the fur and paws
Test the shades on a separate sheet before starting. These swatches are ideas for combining colors: the result depends on your pencils and the pressure you use.
Cream and pink kitten
- Cream
- Pink
- Peach
- Warm gray
Color the fur cream and the paw pads pink. A touch of peach on the cheeks and warm gray in the shadows completes the idea.
Orange tabby
- Soft orange
- Cinnamon
- Light pink
- Ivory
Try soft orange fur and add a few cinnamon stripes. Keep the tummy ivory and use light pink on the paws.
Gray fur and mint paw prints
- Pearl gray
- Medium gray
- Mint
- Dusty pink
Use pearl gray for the cat and medium gray for the shadows. Try mint on the paw prints and dusty pink on the paw pads.

Soft fur, paws and little paw prints
Start with the broad areas
Apply a soft first layer to the tummy, forehead and ears. The drawing already has some shadows: use them without covering everything in a dark color.
The paw pads
Color each pad soft pink and deepen the lower edge slightly. Leave part lighter to make them look rounded.
Turn the paw prints into a background
Repeat the paw color in the prints or alternate two shades. To keep the face as the focal point, make the background lighter than the cat.

Can I add stripes or patches to the kitten?
Yes. Start with light pressure to see how they look. Keep the tummy lighter and add patches to the head, tail or sides if you like.
What color can I use for the paw prints?
Pink, mint or soft gray work well. Choose a light shade if you want the prints to complement the drawing without drawing more attention than the face.
