Japanese Terrier coloring page

This Japanese Terrier looks as though it is running toward you, with raised ears, an open mouth, and one paw in the air. The fur lines already suggest some shadows, so you can focus on choosing the markings and giving it a cheerful expression. Download the JPG, print it, and get your pencils ready.

How to download and print this page

The dog’s outline stands out clearly against the white background. Color the dog first, then decide whether to add a path, some grass, or simply a shadow beneath its paws. You do not need to cover the whole sheet to bring the scene to life.

  1. Click Download the Japanese Terrier JPG and save the original file to your device. If your browser opens the image, use its save-image option.
  2. Open the saved JPG and choose A4 paper in portrait orientation. Select “fit to page” and check that the whole drawing fits within the margins.
  3. Print in black and white. For sharper lines, try a slightly smaller print size on the sheet instead of enlarging the image.

The file measures 1200 × 1200 pixels. The button downloads the original JPG. There is no need to take a screenshot or print the website menus.

Three color ideas for this drawing

Follow one of these combinations or mix your favorite elements from each. Test the shades on a separate sheet before applying them to the drawing.

Light fur with patches

Reserve the white of the paper on the chest and paws. Combine warm gray and brown on the back, and use darker brown around the ears.

A soft color version

Try a cream base, cinnamon markings, and a touch of muted pink on the tongue. Light pressure will keep the original shading visible beneath your color.

A storybook dog

For an imaginative version, use lavender and gray-blue markings. Keep the muzzle light so the eyes and smile stand out.

Coloring tips

Follow the direction of the fur

1

Use short strokes from the forehead toward the muzzle and from the neck toward the chest. Change direction when you reach the paws.

2

Leave small areas uncolored on the back and cheeks. These light patches help separate glossy fur from shaded areas.

3

Finish with the nose, eyes, and tongue. Add a soft shadow beneath the dog to strengthen the sense of movement.

To practice layers and shading before you start, follow the tips in Learn to Color.

Before you start coloring

How do I color the dog’s white areas?

You can leave them uncolored. Add just a very light gray beneath the neck and between the legs to suggest depth without turning the white fur gray.

Can I download the drawing on my phone?

Yes. Tap the download button and save the JPG. If it opens on a separate screen, press and hold the image and choose the save or download option; the name varies by browser. You can then send it to your printer.
