Choose which detail takes the spotlight
Three palettes for a Catrina with personality
I would start with the flowers and choose the hoodie afterward. The headphones and controller can repeat one of those colors without needing to match exactly.
Violet and orange
A violet hoodie with orange flowers creates a strong contrast. Try dark gray headphones and color a few controller buttons to match the petals.
Turquoise and fuchsia
Turquoise accessories and fuchsia flowers create a more vibrant version. Keep the hoodie a soft color if you want the eyes to remain the focal point.
Cream and burgundy
For a quieter combination, use cream on the bones, burgundy on the flowers and muted blue on the clothing. Try dark brown for the hair.
A pale face and small details
Color the skull without losing its expression
You do not need to cover the face in a single gray. Soft shadows around the eyes and beneath the cheekbones help preserve the pale appearance of bone.
Keep the forehead light
A very light layer of cream or warm gray is enough. Darken slightly beneath the flowers and headphones, where they cover part of the face.
Keep the face decorations clear
Color the background around the floral designs, then finish those motifs with a sharp pencil point. Preserve the white highlights in the eyes and the line of the smile.
Separate the fingers from the controller
Leave small light areas between the finger joints. Use a different color for the controller and a soft shadow beneath the hands to distinguish the shapes.
The hoodie has broad areas where you can work at a relaxed pace. Save the drawstrings, buttons and smallest flowers until you have decided on your main color combination.
