A little dragon with big, curious eyes
Big-eyed dragon coloring page for kids
This dragon sits among plants with open wings, striped horns and huge eyes that give it a curious expression. It has broad areas for an easy start and small scales for anyone who wants to spend more time on the details. Download the page and make it a character in your own story.
I would first decide whether it lives in a warm forest, an icy mountain or a fantasy world. That idea helps you choose the body and wing colors.

Leave the eye highlights uncolored: they keep its expression bright and alert.

Give it a place to live
Three palettes for the same dragon
Choose one of these ideas or combine your own colors. The wings can contrast with the body while keeping the drawing harmonious.
Forest dragon
Color the body olive green, the tummy cream and the wings a darker green. Add yellow and brown leaves around the feet.
Ice dragon
Combine light blue and lavender, with deeper blue near the wing folds. Keep the muzzle bright so the eyes stand out.
A gentle fire dragon
Try coral on the body, golden yellow on the tummy and orange on the horns. Muted green ground will balance the warm shades.
To compare shades before coloring, explore the colored-pencil Atlas for your dragon’s palette.
One detail at a time
Wings, scales and eyes while keeping the drawing clear
You do not need a different color for every scale. Light layers keep the lines visible and create volume.
Start with the body
Apply a gentle first layer. Darken slightly beneath the neck and where the feet meet the tummy to make the body look round.
Follow the wings
Color each membrane from its base toward the tip. Leaving the center lighter makes the wings look light and open.
Finish with the eyes
Work around the white eye highlights. Add color to the horns and a few leaves to complete the scene without making it too busy.
To practice soft layers and shadows, follow the tips in learning to color with colored pencils.
Save the drawing and start with your favorite part
When printing, check that the wing tips and plants fit on the paper. Leave the background clear or draw clouds, mountains or a simple forest behind the dragon.
