Characters of the Origin universe
Dark Octopus: the story of Noctir
Before he became Dark Octopus, he was Noctir, a small octopus born in the Sea of a Thousand Colors with an extraordinary ability to concentrate light. Betrayal, the loss of his family and the discovery of Achron’s remains would turn that gift into something far darker.

The character
Who is Dark Octopus?
Dark Octopus is one of the figures driving the conflict in the Origin universe, but his story does not begin with black ink or a desire to steal the colors of other worlds.
His real name is Noctir. As a child, he could concentrate light inside his body and turn it into a precise beam, an extraordinary ability that inspired admiration in his family and fear in those who controlled the flow of pigments.
What happened next shattered that childhood and turned color, once his greatest gift, into something he would take from others.
- Noctir was his name before he became Dark Octopus.
- He was born in the depths of the Sea of a Thousand Colors.
- His parents were Nirea and Redart.
- His downfall is linked to the Prism Councilors and a profound tragedy.
- Achron’s Scythe changes his relationship with color, memories and energy.
Before Dark Octopus
Noctir’s childhood in the Sea of a Thousand Colors
Before the scythe and the shadows, there was a family. Noctir grew up with Nirea and Redart in a place where pigment, light and ocean creatures were part of everyday life.
Nirea
Nirea had purple tentacles and protected Noctir in his early years. Her death would become one of the memories that marked him most deeply.
Redart
Redart taught the young to use colors to create shapes in the water. To him, his son’s strange gift was something to understand, not something to fear.
Concentrating light
While other beings produced scattered flashes, Noctir could gather light within himself and project it with precision and far greater intensity.
The breaking point
The betrayal that changed Noctir’s fate
The Prism Councilors began to distrust that power. What Noctir’s family saw as a gift could, in their eyes, become a threat to their own authority.
The Prism Councilors
They were guardians who decided which beings could watch over the flow of pigments. Noctir’s potential awakened their fear and suspicion.
Krelam receives an order
The Councilors sent Krelam to kidnap the child, accusing him of corrupting the colors through forbidden arts.
Noctir loses his family
Redart was murdered. Nirea tried to escape with her son, but died while protecting him. Noctir survived by hiding among the corals.
Abyssal Graveyard
The birth of Achron’s Scythe
The tragedy was not over. The Councilors found Noctir again and decided to cast him into the Abyssal Graveyard, convinced that the depths would finish the job for them.
More than a weapon
What does Achron’s Scythe do?
The scythe becomes the catalyst for Noctir’s transformation. Its power is linked to pigment, but also to things far deeper than visible color alone.
Absorbs color
The scythe can strip away pigments, leaving bodies and places increasingly drained of color.
Draws away memories
Absorption affects more than appearance. Some memories can disappear along with the pigments.
Feeds its bearer
Each new absorption increases Dark Octopus’s power and deepens the bond between him and the relic.
From Noctir to Dark Octopus
When pain began to change his body
Dark Octopus did not appear overnight. Each loss and each absorption carried Noctir further from the little octopus who concentrated light between his tentacles.
Hardened eyes
The bright eyes of childhood gave way to a weary expression, increasingly marked by shadows.
Tentacles and scars
His body grew more robust, and his scars began to visibly record the consequences of his new abilities.
A cloak born of grief
The cloth he used for protection became soaked with moisture, ash and ink. It symbolizes loss and rebellion rather than nobility.
Light, pigment and memory
Why does Dark Octopus steal colors?
There is a contradiction at the heart of this character: what made Noctir special in childhood becomes what Dark Octopus takes from others.
Color was his first gift
His ability to concentrate light frightened those who would eventually destroy his family and hunt him down.
The scythe reverses that power
Instead of gathering light to project it, he begins absorbing pigments, memories and energy from other beings.
Color is also identity
When their pigments disappear, the affected characters lose more than their appearance and become part of the conflict running through Black Book Series.
